Ahsahka 1 offers convenient boat launch access to the Clearwater River in north-central Idaho, located along Highway 7 near the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery. The site features two boat ramps and bathroom facilities available to the public. This is an excellent access point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore the medium-sized Clearwater River.
The Clearwater River at this location is a substantial waterway—a Class 5 stream with an average flow of 379 cubic feet per second and moderate current velocity of 1.83 feet/second. The river maintains a 3.4 feet/mile gradient through forested, mountainous terrain with an elevation change of 512 feet over its 148-mile length. These conditions support recreational paddling and boating, though paddlers should be prepared for moving water and variable conditions depending on seasonal flows.
The site's location near Dworshak Reservoir and within reach of scenic mountain country makes it a good base for multi-day trips or day paddles. Nearby camping is available at Dworshak State Park's Three Meadows Group Camp. Note that while the facility remains open to the public, patrol and monitoring services may be limited, so plan accordingly for safety and self-sufficiency.
