About This Access Site
Located in Tangipahoa Parish, the Akers access site provides convenient launch facilities for exploring Lake Maurepas. The site features two separate ramps: the main Akers Boat Ramp on the west side and a smaller Akers Small Boat Ramp on the east side. Access is straightforward via I-55 to the Manchac exit, then north on Highway 51—look for a large parking area on the left within the first half-mile. The spacious parking lot accommodates multiple vehicles, making this a reliable option for paddlers and boaters.

Lake Maurepas offers over 40 miles of scenic shoreline characterized by cypress trees and natural vegetation. From Akers, paddlers can explore the lake's waters or access North Pass toward Lake Ponchartrain, though note that a low bridge crossing the pass prevents larger vessels from transiting between the two lakes. Kayakers and canoeists will find calm, sheltered paddling opportunities amid the cypress-lined landscape. The site serves as an excellent base for day trips and fishing expeditions on this expansive freshwater lake.
