Akron Yacht Club

The Akron Yacht Club provides boat launch access to Portage Lakes and the Tuscarawas River system in Akron. This is one of eight public launch ramps serving the Portage Lakes, a chain of reservoirs in Northeast Ohio historically significant as an old Native American portage route connecting the Cuyahoga River (flowing north to Lake Erie) with the Tuscarawas River (flowing south to the Ohio River). The main chain of lakes is interconnected through canals, offering extended paddling and boating opportunities.

Visitors will find a dedicated parking area with directional signage leading to the boat ramp facility. The site accommodates various watercraft and supports paddlers interested in exploring multiple lakes within the system. Note that powerboats up to 400 horsepower are permitted on Portage Lakes. The area includes nearby marine businesses offering rentals and fuel if needed. This access point is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters looking to explore the interconnected lake system.
