About This Access Site
Ambrose Lake State Forest Campground offers a convenient public boat launch on the south side of the campground, providing easy water access to Ambrose Lake. The 90-acre lake is mostly surrounded by state forest land, offering a peaceful and scenic setting for paddling and boating.

For kayakers and canoeists, there is also a carry-in access point on the north side of the campground, allowing for simple put-in and take-out. The campground itself is moderately shaded and features large, spacious campsites - making it an ideal base for those wishing to explore the lake by non-motorized watercraft.

The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and offers 25 sites for tents and RVs, including accessible options. Anglers will also find the lake to be a popular fishing destination. Overall, Ambrose Lake State Forest Campground provides a well-equipped access point for a variety of water-based recreation.

Loon Lake Day use is a popular picnicking area and swimming beach on a peaceful lake.  The 90-acre lake is mostly surrounded by National Forest System lands. The surrounding landscape is a reminder of the glacial heritage of Michigan. The landscape was deposited and sculpted during the last glacial retreat.There is a short nature walk from the parking area that leads to Island Lake Campground....
