Located 7 miles north of Pottsboro off Highway 289, American Legion Post 231 offers boat ramp access to Lake Texoma, a major reservoir on the Red River system. This facility is well-equipped for extended visits, with 15 RV spots featuring electric and water hookups (30 and 50-amp service available), making it convenient for launching trips or overnight stays. The access point provides an excellent staging area for exploring Lake Texoma's 89,000 acres of water.
The Red River above Lake Texoma is a major river system—the 9th largest stream order in North America—with substantial flow averaging over 68,000 cubic feet per second. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for strong currents and swift water conditions typical of a major river corridor. Lake Texoma itself offers more protected paddling opportunities than the river channel, making it ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking calmer conditions. The nearby Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge provides scenic paddling habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds.
