About This Access Site
Amistad Reservoir, located in Val Verde County near Del Rio, Texas, offers multiple boat launch options for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters exploring this scenic desert reservoir. The Rough Canyon boat ramp is a well-maintained concrete launch facility featuring a wide, 4-lane ramp suitable for various boat sizes and trailers. This access point is operational year-round when conditions permit and remains usable at most water levels, making it a reliable choice for paddlers. The ramp is accessible via Route 2 off US-277 North, approximately 20 miles from Del Rio.

The Amistad National Recreation Area is maintained by the National Park Service and serves as an oasis in the desert landscape. Motorized boats require a park pass ($4 per day or $10 for 3-day passes). Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles of the reservoir, including Governors Landing, Rough Canyon, and Spur 406 Campgrounds. For visitor information, maps, and permits, stop at the Amistad National Recreation Area Visitor Center, located six miles west of the Highway 90 and 277 North intersection. Note that during very low water levels, ramp walks may be extended and steep, so plan accordingly.
