This DEC fishing access site on the north side of the Mohawk River provides convenient public access via a concrete ramp and floating dock, with parking for 20 vehicles (24-hour limit). Located off Quist Road near NY Route 5N in Amsterdam, the ramp is only about 20 feet from the parking area, making it ideal for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. The site offers basic access with no additional facilities.
The Mohawk River at this location is a large, navigable waterway (Stream Order 7) with an average flow of 3,455 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient of 1.7 feet per mile. Paddlers heading downstream will encounter the scenic Erie Canal Locks 11 and 12 and several islands; a popular half-day paddle route continues about 5.5 miles to Port Jackson. The river supports a robust warmwater fishery and is well-suited for recreational boating, though paddlers should be prepared for moderate current and boat traffic typical of this historic navigation corridor.
