Anahuac (South)

Located in Chambers County near the mouth of Turtle Bayou, this day-use access point provides launch facilities for exploring Lake Anahuac and Trinity Bay. The ramp is situated in a historically significant area—Turtle Bayou was once freshwater but now features a mix of saltwater and brackish conditions due to early 20th-century water management projects. Paddlers and boaters will find this spot convenient for accessing the scenic bayou system and surrounding waters.

The site is free to use and offers a scenic alternative to nearby Wallisville Lake. Easy access is available from I-10 (take exit 807 and follow the eastbound service road), making it practical for day trips. The adjacent Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1963, protects important wintering habitat for waterfowl and provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and fishing. A quarter-mile trail and boardwalk near the ramp offer additional exploration options for those who want to experience the area without launching a boat.
