About This Access Site
The Anahuac (West) ramp provides access to Anahuac Channel in Chambers County, located near the Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge. This is a motorized boat launch facility situated at the end of West Line Road, offering access to the refuge's waterways including connections to Oyster Bayou and surrounding bayous. The area is open 24/7 with no entrance fees or gates, making it convenient for early morning or evening paddling trips.

Paddlers should note this is a working wildlife refuge established in 1963 primarily for waterfowl habitat. Non-motorized boats (kayaks and canoes) have designated launch areas along East Bay Bayou and other bayou tributaries within the refuge. The refuge also features the Lake Anahuac Trail and Boardwalk (approximately one-quarter mile) for additional exploration opportunities. To reach the ramp, take FM 1985 to access the refuge, and plan to drive several miles on hardtop roads to reach the headquarters and launch area.
