Angel Island State Park's Ayala Cove offers a protected boat launch and mooring site for kayakers, canoeists, and small watercraft. The cove features 19 boat slips and 27 mooring buoys available on a first-come, first-served basis. Boaters must climb a short seawall from the beach to access the facilities.
This location provides access to the open waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, offering paddlers and boaters the opportunity to explore the scenic San Francisco Bay area. However, note that overnight mooring requires a separate permit, and the island is closed to the public from 10 PM to 8 AM without a camping permit.
Nearby campgrounds and recreation areas, including Alcatraz Island and the Marin Headlands, provide additional opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to experience the natural and historical wonders of this region. Paddlers and boaters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with local conditions, tides, and safety considerations before embarking on their adventures.
