The Angostura Marina boat ramp provides excellent access to Angostura Reservoir, a 4,407-acre impoundment on the Cheyenne River in southwestern South Dakota near the Nebraska border. This is one of the few large reservoirs in western South Dakota and offers 42 miles of scenic shoreline backed by Black Hills geography. The marina facility is privately operated and includes 155 boat slips, making it a well-developed access point for both day-use and extended outings.
Kayakers and canoeists will find calm, protected water suitable for paddling, particularly in the marina area and along the reservoir's extensive shoreline. The water is known for excellent clarity. Powered boaters should note that while the marina area is marked by an artificial reef boundary, full-throttle operation is permitted throughout most of the reservoir beyond this point. Multiple additional cart-top and ramp launches are available elsewhere in the park if you prefer quieter paddling areas away from the main marina.
The site is conveniently located near Cold Brook Campground (reservable, within 10 miles) and adjacent to Cottonwood Springs Lake recreation area. Full concessionaire services including a restaurant, rental lodges, and a floating convenience store are available at the marina, making this a comfortable hub for a multi-day visit to the reservoir.
