About This Access Site
Ansonia is a popular put-in location at the head of Pine Creek Canyon near Wellsboro, offering adequate parking and easy access to Pine Creek. This is one of the most frequently used launch points on Pine Creek, with many paddlers beginning their journey here for the scenic 17-mile float through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon to the Blackwell take-out (approximately 6 hours of paddling).

Pine Creek is a medium-sized river with a moderate-to-steep gradient of 18.3 ft/mile, characterized by consistent flow and fast-moving water. Average flows around 6.8 cubic feet per second support canoes, kayaks, and small rafts. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, with higher and faster conditions typical during spring snowmelt; paddlers should check current conditions before launching, as water levels significantly affect trip duration and difficulty. The canyon setting and remote location make this an excellent destination for paddlers seeking scenic, relatively isolated paddling in a region known for exceptionally dark night skies.
