About This Access Site
Arkabutla Lake offers excellent boating and paddling opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized watercraft. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake on the Coldwater River provides eight public boat ramps for convenient water access. The ramps remain open year-round, though the gravel ramp at the Highway 51 Landing parking lot may have limited accessibility depending on river flow and lake levels.

The lake is known for its large crappie population and great sailing conditions, making it a popular destination for anglers and recreational boaters. Daily and annual day-use passes are required to use the boat ramps, which can be purchased on-site. Paddlers should exercise caution as underwater hazards may be present, especially at higher water levels. Three campgrounds are located within 10 miles of the lake, providing ample overnight options for those looking to extend their time on the water.
