About This Access Site
The Ash River boat ramp, located at the Ash River Visitor Center near Orr, Minnesota, provides convenient access to the Ash River and Voyageurs National Park's waterways. This site serves as an official launch point for exploring the park's interconnected lake system, including Kabetogama Lake, Namakan Lake, Rainy Lake, and Sand Point Lake. The visitor center is housed in the historic Meadwood Lodge and operates seasonally from late May through late September. The facility is located 28 miles south of International Falls via Highway 53, approximately 11 miles off the main highway.

Paddlers and boaters will find the ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats to access both the Ash River and the larger park waterways. The site offers vault toilets, drinking water, and garbage facilities. A nearby campground with eight primitive campsites provides overnight options for those planning extended trips. The area is known for whitewater paddling opportunities on the Ash River itself, though paddlers should verify current water conditions and skill requirements. Note that the facility is not ADA accessible and closes seasonally during winter months. For current conditions, hours, or facility updates, contact the visitor center at (218) 374-3221.
