Ashley Lake South Campground offers a small, scenic access point for kayakers and canoeists on this 4-mile-long, 2-mile-wide mountain lake located 12 miles west of Kalispell near Evergreen. The facility features a walk-down boat launch designed specifically for kayaks and canoes, along with 2 campsites, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. Note that the access road has a sharp hairpin turn, making it unsuitable for RVs.
To reach the site, take Highway 2 west from Kalispell, turn at Batavia School onto Ashley Lake Road #912, and follow the south shore road to the camping sign. The lake sits at 3,500 feet elevation and offers good fishing for kokanee, cutthroat, and yellow perch. Be aware that motorboats are permitted on the lake, so expect shared water. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis with a 5-day stay limit. A secondary boat ramp with a concrete launch and gravel parking is also available on the north side of the lake if you need an alternative access point.
