Atchafalaya River

The Melville area provides access to the Atchafalaya River, Louisiana's largest tributary to the Mississippi. These alternative launches provide easier access for larger boats and are recommended starting points for paddling in the basin. The area is part of the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1984, offering opportunities to explore diverse floodplain habitats.
