Avant South

The Avant South boat ramp provides easy access to the North Fork Ouachita River and the larger Lake Ouachita. This rustic riverside launch site is part of the Shangri La Resort recreation area. With a new concrete boat ramp, it's a convenient put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats.

Lake Ouachita is a large, clear reservoir on the Ouachita River in the Ouachita Mountains. The North Fork Ouachita River, where the Avant South ramp is located, flows into the lake. This section of the river is typically calm and navigable for paddlers, with gentle current. Boaters and anglers will find the lake itself to be a popular destination for recreation.

While no camping or lodging is available right at the Avant South access site, the nearby Highway 27 Campground provides camping options within 10 miles. Paddlers and boaters can plan their Lake Ouachita adventures using the interactive map and boat ramp information available online.
