Avery Island

The Avery Island boat ramp provides access to Petit Anse (Little Cove in Cajun French), a calm bayou on the west side of Avery Island that flows south into Vermilion Bay and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. This is an excellent access point for kayakers and canoeists seeking smooth, protected waters typical of Louisiana's coastal bayou system. Note that access to Avery Island is via a toll road (a low toll bridge), though visitors are no longer charged a toll fee.

Petit Anse is known for its calm, flat waters and scenic Louisiana swamp landscape featuring cypress and tupelo trees, making it ideal for paddlers of all skill levels. The area is popular with anglers targeting redfish, trout, and drum. Be aware that most boat ramps in the area require either a seasonal permit or day-use fee, so plan accordingly.
