Babcock County Park offers a boat launch on the east side of Lake Waubesa near the Village of McFarland on US Highway 51. The facility includes multiple launch ramps, a fish cleaning station, and an accessible fishing pier. The park is located at the outflow of the Yahara River, making it a convenient access point for paddlers and boaters exploring the lake and river system. Note that the launch area can be busy with motorboat traffic, so kayakers and canoeists should exercise caution and allow time for launching around larger vessels.
The park serves as an important access point for paddlers interested in the Yahara River System. Babcock Lock, located at the park, provides opportunities for recreational boating during high water periods by allowing boaters to navigate the river without portaging around dams. The 37-acre park also features a 25-unit campground with full hookups and amenities, making it suitable for extended trips or overnight stays.
Future improvements are planned for the site, including dedicated kayak launch facilities and additional shoreline accessibility enhancements. Contact Dane County Parks for current conditions, seasonal closures, and any updates on facility development.
