Bagley Bottoms

Bagley Bottoms is a public boat launch located in Grant County, Wisconsin, providing access to Pool 10 of the Upper Mississippi River within the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The site offers a convenient put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring this scenic stretch of river between Lynxville, WI and Guttenberg, IA. Note: This landing should not be confused with the nearby Wyalusing State Park landing; Bagley Bottoms is located off Highway X, downstream from the state park.

The Mississippi River at this location is a major waterway with substantial flow—averaging over 685,000 cubic feet per second with current velocities around 11 feet per second. Paddlers should expect a powerful, wide river suitable for experienced canoeists and kayakers. The relatively gentle gradient (0.8 ft/mile average) means manageable conditions, though the river's size and current demand respect and preparation. The site is part of the scenic Upper Mississippi River Valley, offering opportunities for wildlife viewing and access to nearby natural attractions including Effigy Mounds National Monument.
