About This Access Site
The Balsam Lake West Boat Ramp, located on WIS-46 in Polk County, offers convenient access to Wisconsin's largest lake by surface area. The ramp is well-maintained and easy to use, with ample parking available for vehicles and trailers. This makes it an ideal launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore the expansive 2,054-acre lake.

Balsam Lake spans over 65 miles of shoreline and reaches depths of up to 49 feet, providing diverse paddling opportunities and good fishing for panfish, bass, pike, and walleye. Beyond the boat launch itself, the site includes picnic areas with tables and grills, making it suitable for a full day of recreation. Multiple public access points are available around the lake (northwest, southwest, and east), giving paddlers flexibility in planning routes or exploring different sections of the shoreline.
