The Bar Harbor boat ramp provides direct access to the Pacific Ocean and the Tongass Narrows near Ketchikan, Alaska. This launch site is located downtown at 2933 Tongass Avenue, with nearby parking lots accommodating both vehicles and trailers.
The Tongass Narrows is a wide, protected waterway that can be suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and small recreational boats. However, boaters should be aware of the 7-knot speed limit in the northern part of the narrows. The nearby waters can see strong tidal currents, so paddlers and captains should plan accordingly and check conditions before launching.
Amenities in the immediate area include trash disposal, laundry facilities, fuel, and restaurants. There is also reserved and open moorage available for boats ranging from 20 to 90 feet in length. For overnight stays, the Signal Creek Campground and Last Chance Campground are located within 10 miles of the boat ramp.
