Barron Creek

Located approximately 25 miles northeast of Libby on Forest Development Road 228, Barron Creek offers a well-developed boat ramp and dock facility for accessing Lake Koocanusa on the Kootenai River. The site features a paved boat ramp and parking area, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats launching onto this expansive reservoir. The facility includes vault toilets and is non-reservable, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.

The recreation site provides seven camping areas for those looking to combine their paddling with overnight stays. Three open campsites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet and feature fire rings, while four additional sites are located near the boat dock parking area. All sites have nearby vault toilets. The paved campground road and ramp contrast with native material parking spurs, so arrive prepared for variable road conditions. This location serves as an excellent base for exploring Lake Koocanusa and is conveniently positioned near the Libby Dam & Visitor Center (approximately 17 miles south) and other Kootenai National Forest recreation areas.
