About This Access Site
Bass Lake in Steuben, Schoolcraft County offers a scenic boat ramp access point within the Hiawatha National Forest. This rustic inland lake provides a peaceful paddling and fishing destination in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The access site is located at Bass Lake Campsite, a reservable campground facility managed by the Munising and Rapid River/Manistique Ranger Districts.

**Directions & Access:** From Manistique, drive north on M-94 for 22 miles to County Road 437, then turn west and drive 4.6 miles to Forest Road 2792. Turn east on FR 2792 and continue about 0.75 mile to reach the campsite. For more information or reservations, contact the ranger district at 906-474-6442 or 906-387-2512.

**Amenities & Recreation:** The lake is suitable for kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and fishing in a quiet forest setting. The campground offers a rustic experience with nearby campsites at Lyman Lake, Council Lake, and Steuben Lake within 10 miles. Note that the facility does not have drinking water on-site, so plan accordingly. This area is ideal for paddlers seeking a serene, remote inland lake experience in the national forest.

Visitors will be able to enjoy swimming, berry picking, and fishing at these dispersed campsites. Licenses are required for fishing in Michigan waters.
Swimming is considered poor at the Bass Lake campsite. 
However, Bass Lake hosts a great fishery of northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass and bluegills. There is a developed boat launch located on the eastern shore of Bass Lake, approximately four miles away from the campsite. There is no back-in boat access at the campsite.

Natural Features
The Bass Lake campsite is located on the western shore of the enormous 290-acre Bass Lake. This site is nestled among hardwoods and is approximately 35 ft x 50 ft in size. It is suitable for only one small family trailer.

There are a number of horse, bike, and hiking trails within minutes of several of the sites. In over a mile from these campsites, visitors can expect to find: bait shops, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, a fishing pier, biking, and kayak/canoe rentals. 
Gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, boat rentals, ice and MDNR licenses are available at Steuben, approximately three miles to the Northeast on County Road 437 (CR-437)
