The Bates Road boat ramp provides easy public access to the Erie Canal in Medina, NY. This hard-surface ramp is located on the north side of the canal, just west of the Bates Road crossing. It offers parking for up to 20 cars and trailers, making it a convenient launching point for kayaks, canoes, and small trailered boats.
The Erie Canal in this section is a wide, slow-moving waterway, well-suited for leisurely paddling and motorized boating. Paddlers can explore the historic canal and its surrounding communities, while boaters have access to the broader canal system. However, please note that this site will be closed to the public from June 2023 through mid-November 2025 due to an access improvement project. During this time, users should seek alternative launch locations along the Erie Canal.
