The Belhaven Boat Ramp, located off Water Street in downtown Belhaven, provides convenient access to Pantego Creek and connects paddlers to the Pungo River and Pamlico Sound beyond. This North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission facility offers two launching lanes, courtesy docks, parking for approximately 30 boat trailers, and restrooms—making it a well-equipped option for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.
Pantego Creek is a medium-sized tidal waterway with a very gentle gradient (0.5 ft/mile) and minimal elevation change, creating calm, slow-moving conditions ideal for paddlers of various skill levels. With average flows around 186 cubic feet per second and low velocity, expect peaceful paddling conditions, particularly suitable for recreational kayaking and canoeing. The creek's proximity to protected coastal marshes and the nearby Swanquarter National Wildlife Refuge makes this an excellent launch point for exploring the diverse ecosystems of eastern North Carolina's Albemarle-Pamlico region.
