About This Access Site
Located at the end of Seagrape Drive in Ochopee, this primitive launch provides access to Halfway Creek and the surrounding backcountry waterways of Big Cypress National Preserve. The facility includes a single boat ramp, four trailer parking spaces, and 12 vehicle parking spaces in a dirt lot. Small motorized boats, canoes, and kayaks can all be launched here, though no docks are available. **Note: A backcountry permit is required for all trips.**

Halfway Creek is navigable for several miles before becoming too shallow and narrow for most boats, offering good paddling distance for kayakers and canoeists. The creek also connects to short channels leading to other paddleable waters, including the Turner River and Left Hand Turner River. Experienced paddlers can create extended loop routes combining these waterways (approximately 16 miles possible), though this requires shuttle logistics between multiple access points. For those preferring a straightforward trip, paddling out and returning is always an option.

The nearest campground is Burns Lake Campground, available by reservation within 10 miles. Plan ahead for your backcountry permit and consider water levels and tide conditions when planning your trip.
