This boat ramp provides access to the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir, a 6,348-acre lake with maximum depths of 46 feet in Marathon County. The South Unit 2 landing offers 39 dedicated parking spaces (14 for cars with trailers, 25 for cars), a paved path to the water, a dumpster, and recycling station. The adjacent beach area has additional amenities including 100 total parking spaces, vault restrooms, water pumps, picnic shelters, and grills—making this a well-developed launch site for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters.
The reservoir supports diverse fishing opportunities for musky, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye. Paddlers should note that the Big Eau Pleine River upstream from Highway 153 involves slower, less scenic flowage; the 2.2-mile paddle from Highway 153 to the Maryel Drive Boat Ramp is generally considered uninteresting. Multiple public boat launches around the reservoir provide alternative access points and take-out options. This location works well for day trips and serves as a base for exploring the broader recreational opportunities in the area, including nearby state natural areas and other county parks.
