The Big Lake South access site provides a convenient boat ramp for paddlers, canoeists, and motorized boaters to launch onto the 7-mile long Big Lake. The paved boat ramp is located off Mile 5.2 of South Big Lake Road, about 15 miles north of Wasilla, Alaska.
Big Lake is a popular destination for fishing, wildlife viewing, and recreational boating. The lake is relatively shallow, with an average depth of 10-15 feet, making it well-suited for kayaks, canoes, and small motorized craft. Boaters should be aware of potential wind and wave conditions, as the open water can produce choppy conditions on windy days.
Amenities at the site include a boat launch, parking, and vault toilets. There are additional recreational facilities nearby at the Lake North and Big Lake South State Recreation Sites, including campgrounds, picnic areas, and other lake access points. Paddlers and boaters should review local regulations and use caution when navigating the lake.
