About This Access Site
Big Salmon is a public boat ramp providing access to the Strait of Juan de Fuca near Neah Bay in Clallam County. This is an excellent launch point for small to medium boats (14-20 feet) seeking salmon fishing opportunities without having to cross a dangerous bar. The ramp offers convenient access to productive fishing grounds just around the corner from the launch, including excellent spots near the Caves. The relatively sheltered conditions make this an accessible option for paddlers and boaters of varying experience levels compared to open Pacific Ocean access.

The surrounding area offers spectacular scenery and outstanding recreation opportunities. Paddlers launching here can explore the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and Flattery Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, both featuring dramatic coastal cliffs, wildlife viewing, and pristine waters. Winter blackmouth salmon fishing is popular year-round, with pink salmon opportunities on odd-numbered years. A saltwater fishing license is required. The nearby community of Sekiu provides fuel, tackle, groceries, and lodging services for those planning extended trips.
