About This Access Site
The Big Sandy boat ramp provides easy access to the Tennessee River's Kentucky Lake. Paddlers, canoeists, and small boaters will find this a convenient launching point to explore this scenic section of the waterway.

The ramp is located approximately 1.25 miles off Highway 69A, down a gravel drive. It's situated along the southern shore of the river, putting boaters in the deep, buoyed channel leading out to the wider expanse of Kentucky Lake. The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, with its 65 miles of shoreline, is nearby, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature exploration.

Kentucky Lake is a large, navigable reservoir formed by the Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River. Paddlers can expect relatively calm conditions, but should be prepared for potential wind and boat traffic common on this popular recreational waterway. The Tennessee River in this area is wide and slow-moving, making it well-suited for a variety of small watercraft. Boaters should consult navigation charts and be aware of any restrictions or hazards in the area.
