About This Access Site
Big Thunder Lake provides public boat access to Thunder Lake, a scenic 1,347-acre water body in Cass County, Minnesota. The lake features a maximum depth of 95 feet and is suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorboating. Access is via the Big Creek Lakes Recreation Area off Forest Road 600—primitive boat ramps are available at both the east shore day use area (turn left at the "T" junction) and the north shore day use area (turn right, then bear left at the first fork). Most launch ramps accommodate boats up to 18 feet.

This is a day-use access point with no launch fees, making it a convenient option for paddlers and boaters looking to explore Thunder Lake. The primitive ramp facilities are free and accessible to the public. For those interested in camping in the area, Mabel Lake Campground offers both reservable and first-come, first-serve campsites available up to 6 months in advance.
