About This Access Site
Big Water Marina is a full-service boat access facility located in Starr, Anderson County, South Carolina, on Lake Hartwell—one of the most popular Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation. The marina offers convenient public boat ramp access year-round, along with wet and dry slip storage, fueling, and a general store. This location sits on one of the largest open-water expanses on the lake, making it an excellent launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.

Lake Hartwell itself is a substantial impoundment on the Savannah River, a major waterway (Stream Order 8) with a drainage area of over 10,000 square miles. The reservoir was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963 and offers protected cove-style paddling opportunities. Beyond the marina, paddlers have access to the broader lake system with numerous inlets and tributaries to explore. For additional information or questions about amenities and availability, contact the Hartwell Lake Office at 888-893-0678.
