About This Access Site
The Northeast boat ramp at Birch Lake is a gravel/dirt launch providing access to this expansive 7,074-acre reservoir located northeast of Babbitt in the Superior National Forest. The lake stretches approximately 15 miles long with a maximum depth of 25 feet and features brown water typical of the region. This is one of four public ramps available on Birch Lake, making it a convenient entry point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters.

Birch Lake is a popular destination for both paddling and fishing, with opportunities to catch northern pike, perch, crappie, and walleye. The lake has several major inlet streams and drains via the Kawishiwi River outlet, offering paddlers multiple routes to explore. A backcountry campsite on the lake is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is accessible only by foot or boat, making this location ideal for paddlers planning overnight trips into the Superior National Forest.
