About This Access Site
The Birch Lake west access provides a gravel/dirt boat ramp for launching onto this expansive 7,074-acre reservoir located northeast of Babbitt. The lake stretches approximately 15 miles in length with a maximum depth of 25 feet and features brown water typical of the region. This is one of four public ramps providing access to Birch Lake, making it a convenient entry point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring the water body.

Paddlers should note that Birch Lake offers both day-use opportunities and backcountry camping options. A first-come, first-served backcountry campsite is accessible by boat, featuring a fire grate, latrine, and picnic table. The lake supports various fish species including northern pike, black crappie, and brook trout, making it popular with anglers. Several inlets feed into the lake, with the Kawishiwi River serving as the primary outlet, creating scenic paddling routes for those exploring the area.
