About This Access Site
Bishop's Point is a public boat ramp on the Red River in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, offering convenient access to one of North America's major waterways. The ramp features a two-lane launch with 9 picnic tables, making it suitable for day trips with family and groups. To reach the site, take US Highway 71 to Montgomery, turn west at the caution light, proceed over the railroad tracks through downtown, and turn right at Old Jefferson Highway to access the ramp on the left.

The Red River is a substantial waterway with a major stream order (comparable to the Mississippi or Missouri rivers), averaging over 68,000 cubic feet per second flow and 5.93 feet per second velocity. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for a strong current and significant water volume. Note that Bishop's Point closes when river levels reach 26 feet with predicted continued rise, so check current conditions before launching. The site provides good access for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating on this dynamic 928-mile river system.
