Blue Rock is a convenient public boat ramp providing access to Lake Clarke, the ten-mile impoundment behind Safe Harbor Dam on the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County. Located in Washington Boro and managed by the Blue Rock Heritage Center, this ramp offers a practical alternative to crossing the river to reach the larger public facility at Long Level in York County. The access point sits adjacent to the Heritage Center's parking lot, just across the railroad tracks.
This site is popular with kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters seeking to explore Lake Clarke's calm waters. From here, paddlers can reach notable destinations like the Conejohela Flats, an important habitat area for migratory and shore birds. Lock 2 at the dam also features upper and lower boat ramps and additional access areas. The protected nature of this impounded section makes it suitable for various skill levels, offering a quieter paddling experience compared to the free-flowing sections of the Susquehanna River upstream.
