Located in Cibola County near Prewitt (I-40 Exit 63), Bluewater Lake State Park offers a concrete boat ramp with two launching lanes situated directly west of the main facility. The ramp top elevation is 7,406 feet. This is a developed state park access point with excellent amenities, including a boat dock, visitor center, and nearby picnic areas—making it convenient for day-trippers as well as those planning extended stays.
The park provides substantial camping infrastructure with 149 developed campsites, including 14 sites with electric hookups, water access, restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Boaters will find a full range of recreational opportunities beyond paddling, including 0.25-mile hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and birding around the lake. The park is accessed via paved Highway 412, which branches from I-40 at Prewitt and descends into the Bluewater Creek valley to reach the lake.
Bluewater Lake itself offers a scenic setting with nearby cultural recreation areas, including the Casamero Pueblo and Chacoan Outliers, adding historical interest to your visit. The park is well-suited for both kayakers and traditional powerboats, with good facilities for launching and a developed beach area for access.
