About This Access Site
The Bonnet Carré Spillway boat ramp, located at the intersection of S. Main Road and US Highway 61 near Norco, provides access to the lower Mississippi River. This is a major access point on one of North America's largest rivers—a powerful waterway averaging over 685,000 cubic feet of water per second with velocities around 11 feet per second. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for strong currents and significant river traffic. The ramp is situated along the east bank on River Road (LA 48).

Beyond the launch area, the Bonnet Carré Spillway complex offers extensive recreational facilities managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including fishing opportunities, biking trails, camping, and wildlife viewing across its 250-acre protected wildlife management area. The spillway's construction lakes (former clay pits) provide calmer water options stocked with bluegill and largemouth bass for those seeking alternatives to the main river channel. For facility information, reservations, or specific details on amenities and hours, contact the Army Corps of Engineers office at 16302 River Road, Norco, LA 70079.
