Bono Creek

The Bono Creek boat launch is a small, public access point conveniently located between Ashland and Washburn on Highway 13, just north of the Nolander/Birch Grove road intersection. This carry-in launch offers an excellent starting point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore Chequamegon Bay and the sheltered waters of Lake Superior's south shore. The location provides more protection from open lake conditions compared to other Superior access points.

This modest facility is ideal for paddlers seeking a quieter launch experience with easier access to the bay's calmer waters. The nearby Whittlesey Creek National Wildlife Refuge—a significant coastal wetland complex—makes the area attractive for wildlife viewing and nature exploration. Given its small size and carry-in design, this launch works best for kayaks and smaller watercraft rather than larger boats.
