Located on the north shore of Amistad Reservoir approximately 2 miles east of Del Rio, Box Canyon offers convenient access via a well-maintained one-lane concrete boat ramp. To reach the site from US-90, turn left onto Box Canyon Estates Road and follow signs to the launch area on the east side of the campground. The ramp is usable at most lake levels year-round, and during low water periods, an alternative gravel bank launch is available. The facility includes a fishing pier, courtesy dock, vehicle parking, and restroom facilities.
Boaters should note that any motorized vessel requires a day use pass ($4 per day, $10 for 3 days, or $40 annually). Kayakers and canoeists can access the water without a motor pass. Box Canyon serves as an entry point to Amistad National Recreation Area, an international reservoir offering expansive paddling opportunities in this desert oasis setting. Two nearby campgrounds—Governors Landing and Spur 406—provide overnight options for those planning extended trips on the water.
