About This Access Site
Braidwood Lake in Braceville offers convenient public boat access via a concrete boat ramp located on Kankakee Street. The facility provides parking for vehicle and trailer combinations and accommodates a variety of watercraft. There are no horsepower limitations on the lake, though boats under 14 feet are not recommended. The lake is known for warm water during summer months and supports both fishing and recreational boating, with diverse wildlife present in the area.

Current facilities at this access point are minimal, though future improvements are planned to include a paved access road, expanded boat launches and ramps, additional parking, and restroom facilities. Paddlers and boaters should note that a majority of the shoreline is open for bank fishing, with clearly marked areas. Access to interior islands is prohibited. The lake features some steep drop-offs and rock piles, so familiarize yourself with conditions before launching. This site is well-positioned near Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, offering opportunities to explore northeastern Illinois's largest public open space while enjoying lake-based recreation.
