About This Access Site
The Bridgeton Municipal boat ramp provides access to the Cohansey River in downtown Bridgeton, where the river transitions from a narrow upstream channel into a wider tidal estuary. **Important note for paddlers:** The ramp becomes unusable at low tide due to approximately 20 feet of mud between the channel and the ramp itself, and the river is very shallow through downtown (often just one foot to a few inches). Plan your launch around high tide for the best results.

Downstream from Bridgeton, the Cohansey River widens into a scenic tidal estuary approximately 10 miles long that flows southwest toward Cohansey Cove on Delaware Bay, about 7 miles from town. This lower section offers improved water depths for kayakers and canoeists. The river has a rich recreational history dating back over a century, with excellent opportunities for paddling, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Contact the City of Bridgeton before your visit to confirm current conditions and any access requirements.
