About This Access Site
Briggs Bay offers free public boat access to Oneida Lake at Mile 138.76 of the Erie Canal system, located on the southern shore between Lakeport and Bridgeport in Madison County. This state-maintained launch provides convenient access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore Oneida Lake or travel the Erie Canal Water Trail. The central location on the lake's south shore makes it an ideal starting point for paddlers wanting to access different areas of the lake.

**Important Note:** This access site is closed to the public from June 9 through mid-November 2025 due to an access improvement project. Plan your visit accordingly and check ahead before traveling. When open, Briggs Bay serves as a practical entry point for exploring the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, one of America's most historically significant waterways.
