About This Access Site
Browns Ferry is a Georgetown County-managed public boat ramp offering convenient access to the lower Black River. The site features a double paved boat ramp, floating dock, and paved parking area with a frontage-style entrance road leading directly to the water. This is a solid launch point for motorboats, canoes, and kayaks seeking to explore this section of the river.

The Black River at this location is a major waterway—a 288-mile stream with significant flow (averaging over 10,500 cubic feet per second) and moderate gradient. Paddlers should expect a moderately-flowing river with good current. The site sits in the lower 38-mile section of the Black River as it flows through Georgetown County toward its confluence with the Great Pee Dee River. Other public landings downstream include Rocky Point, Peters Creek, and Pringles Ferry, making multi-day trips feasible.

Note that restroom facilities are not available at this access point. The ramp is free and open to the public year-round from sunrise to sunset, making it an accessible option for day trips and launching expeditions on this coastal plain river.
