About This Access Site
This Minnesota DNR-managed boat ramp provides access to Northern Light Lake via the Brule River, located about a mile north of the lake in Cook County. The ramp is situated at the west end of Northern Light Lake and accommodates standard recreational boats. This is a remote, backcountry area with minimal development—plan accordingly with supplies and navigation skills.

Northern Light Lake is a near-wilderness destination with just one first-come, first-served campsites available for overnight users. Paddlers and boaters should come prepared with water treatment supplies, as all water must be boiled or treated. The site includes a fire grate and latrine. There are no launch fees at this DNR access point. Two Island Lake Campground is the nearest developed camping option, located within 10 miles.

This access works well for kayakers and canoeists seeking a remote backcountry experience on a quiet lake. Given the wilderness character and limited facilities, this is best suited for experienced paddlers comfortable with self-sufficiency and navigation in a quieter, undeveloped setting.
