Dunes Lake at Bruneau Dunes State Park offers a calm, accessible paddling destination in southwestern Idaho's high desert landscape. The park features a boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and small electric motor craft. **Only non-motorized boats and electric motors are permitted**—gas-powered motors are not allowed. The lake is stocked with largemaster bass, bluegill, catfish, and carp, making it popular for fishing as well as paddling.
The park provides convenient amenities for water users, including loaner life jackets and a large dock for easy access. With over 110 campsites and two cabins available, paddlers can extend their trip into a multi-day adventure. The surrounding area offers additional activities like sandboarding on the dunes, hiking, and stargazing at the public observatory. Nearby Bruneau Canyon and the Bruneau River take-out point those seeking more adventurous paddling experiences in the remote Owyhee plateau region.
