Buck Creek State Park's main boat ramp provides the primary public access to Clarence J. Brown Lake (C.J. Brown Reservoir), a 2,120-acre impoundment located on the northeast side of Springfield. The facility features a well-maintained four-lane launch ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats of all sizes. On-site amenities include a marina with fuel, a snack bar, bait shop, and seasonal dock rentals, making it a convenient base for day trips or extended outings.
Paddlers should note that unlimited horsepower boating is permitted on the lake, so expect motorized traffic, particularly during weekends and warm-weather months. The reservoir offers good opportunities for wildlife viewing, including waterfowl observation from the boat launch area. The lake's size and relatively calm conditions make it suitable for paddlers of varying skill levels, though wind can be a factor on exposed water. This is Ohio's only public boat ramp providing access to C.J. Brown Reservoir, making it the primary entry point for the area.
