About This Access Site
Buckskin Hills Wildlife Management Area offers a 75-acre lake located 2 miles west and 2 miles south of Newcastle in Dixon County. The site features a boat ramp providing access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. The area encompasses 340 acres of public land with prairie and wooded habitat, making it suitable for paddling in a quiet, natural setting.

**Important Boating Restrictions:** This is a no-wake zone with motorboat speeds strictly limited to 5 mph. Paddlers should note that the area is primarily managed for hunting and fishing rather than recreation, so expect seasonal hunting activity. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, black crappie, and walleye, making it popular with anglers.

**Amenities & Access:** Public restrooms are available, and primitive camping is permitted on the grounds. The Wildlife Management Area is open year-round for hunting, trapping, fishing, and boating. Hikers will also find ample trails throughout the 340-acre property. This is an excellent low-key destination for paddlers seeking a peaceful experience in a wildlife-focused setting.
