About This Access Site
Burnsville Lake is a 968-acre lake in central West Virginia near Burnsville, offering excellent paddling and boating opportunities with three wheelchair-accessible public boat ramps. The lake's narrow, winding shape with numerous coves makes it particularly well-suited for kayaking and canoeing. The water body is surrounded by over 13,000 acres of the Burnsville Wildlife Management Area, providing a scenic natural setting for paddlers of all skill levels.

This access point is located at the main Burnsville Lake Shelters area (2746 S Main St, Burnsville, WV 26335), which features group picnic facilities and day-use amenities. The site is easily accessible from I-79 (Exit 79) near Clarksburg. In addition to paddling, the lake supports fishing for bass, trout, walleye, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. For overnight stays, nearby camping options include Riffle Run Campground and Bulltown Camp, both of which are reservable.

The primary pastime at the picnic shelters, naturally, is picnicking. Activities like biking, hiking and fishing are also quite popular.Facilities
The shelters are equipped with drinking water and a large charcoal grill; shelters 3 and 5 have electricity. All shelters are close to playgrounds and flush toilets. Groups with young children may prefer shelters 2, 3, 4 and 5, as they are nearest to playground facilities.

Natural Features
The reservoir was built in 1978 for flood control. Its beautiful setting between the Allegheny Mountains and Allegheny Plateau create a lush backdrop of steep hills.

Take a trip back in time at the Bulltown Historical Village to get a taste of life during the Civil War era. The village and visitor center is nearest to shelters 5 and 6.
